Avengers: Endgame’s “I Love You 3,000" Is a Real Line From Robert Downey Jr.’s Life

One of the most powerful lines that tugged at our heartstrings in Avengers: Endgame was said by Tony Stark’s only daughter, Morgan. As she went to bed, Stark told her he loved her, to which she replied, “I love you 3,000.”

Stark then proceeded to brag about this to his wife, Pepper, implying that he was Morgan's favorite parent. “She loves me 3,000.” The line is repeated near the end of the movie in one of its most iconic and emotional scenes.

Marvel is known for inserting interesting little ad libs in many of its films.

According to Insider, the screenwriters for Endgame revealed that in the original dialogue between Stark and his daughter, they were supposed to use “I love you tons,” say screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The line became so famous among moviegoers and Marvel fans on social media that it quickly became the standard in expressing their heartbreak about the movie’s ending.

Markus and McFeely explained the line is made up of words that the children of Robert Downey, Jr. always say to him.

“It was supposed to be 'I love you tons, I love you tons,'" said McFeely, explaining the original script of Endgame.

"And so, Robert says, 'I love you tons,' but his children say to him, 'I love you, 3,000,’" explains McFeely.

Just when we thought the film could not get any more emotional, we discover this very personal tidbit about Robert Downey, Jr., adding more meaning and significance to those particular scenes in Endgame.
