Furniture retailer Sancal is a family-owned company that began in 1973 when a 20-year old Santiago Castaño started producing Marie Antoinette-style chairs. The demand grew, and eventually, Santiago, together with his brother Pepe and wife Concha, pivoted toward the modern designs that Sancal is now known for. Model 33, a modular design that enabled a nearly infinite number of compositions, was a popular hit among Sancal clients and thus guided its founders in doing away with the superfluous elements of design.

Behind its products, a design ethos that balances a strong identity and the ability to personalize shines through each sofa, coffee table, and chair. Sancal’s unconventional designs inject fun into simplicity and familiarity.

Consider the Mosaico, a sofa set resembling a puzzle that solves a range of different spatial constraints. Each of its hexagonal pieces creates compositions that make closed loops and can be transformed into mini-sofas. On the other hand, the Nap resurrects the sofa-bed with its familiar quilted details and quick “one-two” movement that instantly converts its use. The multipurpose piece keeps small eucalyptus-finished compartments tucked away to store your belongings in one tidy secret.
