The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride Celebrates Its 10th Year in the Philippines

Dressed in the finest threads (leather jackets, vests, and boots were, of course, the de facto dress code), 1,700 classic and vintage bike enthusiasts gathered across 19 different cities in the Philippines for Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) 2024. This year saw one of the biggest turnouts yet.

As in previous years, Triumph Motorcycles sponsored DGR 2024. In the years prior, Manila had about 1,800 registered riders. One of the world's biggest motorcycling charity events, DGR was founded in Sydney, Australia back in 2012 and has since become quite the movement.

Across the world, nearly 90,000 riders in more than 900 cities and 100 countries gathered to raise awareness for prostate cancer research and men's mental health programs. In the Philippines, riders came together in 19 participating cities, including Manila, Tagaytay, Batangas, Bacolod, Cebu, Dumaguete, Zamboanga, and Baguio.

The Philippines tallied its biggest donation totals yet, according to organizers. Riders apparently raised approximately P328,0000. Proceeds are set to go to prostate cancer research and men's mental health programs.

In the Philippines, data from the Department of Health shows that prostate cancer affects roughly 19 percent out of 100,000 Filipino men, making it one of the most common cancers around. There are also about 1.4 million men diagnosed with the disease every year. In the past, DGR has funded biomedical research that addresses these issues.

Mental health and suicide prevention initiatives have been a staple of the DGR, as well. There are about six million Filipinos who have experienced depression and anxiety. Research from a global survey in 2020 also suggested that the country has the third highest rate of mental disorders in the Western Pacific.

Thankfully, no accidents or casualties were reported at this year's event.
