The American soldier and teacher, who grew up in the plains of Kansas and made his way to the hills of Cavite, lived a rich and fascinating life. After the Philippine-American war, he settled in the country, married a Filipina, became a writer, and bought many parcels of fertile land along the Tagaytay Ridge, some of which still bear his name today.
