Here's Why You Need to See the Restaging of Ang Huling El Bimbo

If you saw the all-Filipino hit musical Ang Huling El Bimbo back in 2018 (yes, that was five years ago) during its first run, or even four years ago since it was last staged, which, either way, was a completely different era—you should watch the “post-pandemic” staging.

There has been a total of 120 performances seen by over 60,000 theatergoers of the hit musical based on the songs of the Eraserheads. Today, it’s back onstage at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Newport World Resorts, where it will run until July 23, 2023.

There’s plenty to look forward to in this restaging of AHEB.

Cast: old and new

Gab Pangilinan reprises her role as the younger version of the main character Joy, Gian Magdangal returns as the older Hector, while Topper Fabregas plays the younger Anthony. Sheila Francisco and Jamie Wilson also returns as Tia Dely and Arturo Banlaoi, respectively.

Actor, singer, and host Anthony Rosaldo is making his theater debut portraying one of the main roles in the production as young Hector. Meanwhile, Gawad Buhay-winning theater actor Paw Castillo and indie folk artist Bullet Dumas join the ensemble as the young and old Emman, respectively.

Award-winning artist Nino Alejandro is playing the older Anthony, and professional voice teacher Katrine Sunga as older Joy, the role played originally by the first lady of Philippine musical theater Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, alternating with Carla Guevara-Laforteza.

The production claims that fans can look forward to new choreography and an updated script. So even if you’ve seen the musical before, there are new things to love in this latest staging.

AHEB runs every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m, with matinee performances every Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Check out the complete schedules here.
