Producer David Ian expressed his delight, saying in a statement, "After incredible success in Australia and the UK, we’re delighted to be bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to Manila. This Olivier Award-winning production has amazed audiences around the world with its raw energy and breathtaking performances. Whether you’ve loved the show for decades or are discovering it for the first time, this will be an unforgettable experience."
The show itself is a timeless work, exploring the dramatic final weeks of Jesus Christ’s life, told entirely through song and viewed through the conflicted eyes of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. Its legendary 1970s rock score, which was originally released as a concept album, is packed with anthems, including the famous numbers "Superstar," "I Don’t Know How to Love Him," and "Gethsemane."

After a U.S. tour in 1986, revivals were produced on the West End in 1996 and twice on Broadway in 2000 and 2012. It has been multiple times across the U.K., the U.S., and at Regent's Park Open Air.
