Prince Harry Drags Queen Camila and Prince William Through the Mud in Bombshell Memoir
Before the Kardashians, there were the Windsors, a semi-incestuous family built on expired self-importance. It’s been a thousand years since society was dumb enough to believe in the “divinity” of kings and queens, and yet noble titles still mean a damn on the British Isles. With Queen Elizabeth II dead, it looks like the end is in sight for the crusty royals of Great Britain. And Prince Harry is the one ushering their ruin.
Oh, Prince Harry. Once upon a time, he was the Nazi costume-wearing party prince of the Royal Family. Now, he’s a wisened middle-aged man who’s no longer afraid of the imaginary power of the Firm. For years, he and his wife, Megan Markle, have been the dartboard for senior royals and monarchists. They’ve been fighting back in equal measure with now countless bombshell interviews, but it might be Harry’s shocking new memoir that puts the final nail in the coffin of their dying familial relationship.
Titled the Spare, Harry’s memoir takes us through controversial and, until now, unreported moments in his life, many of which paint the entire brood of Windsors in bad lighting. And if there’s anything royals hate more, it’s bad PR.

In one chapter, Harry recounts how Prince William once attacked him and then asked him not to tell Megan about it. In another, he explains how he and his brother asked their father, then Prince Charles, to not marry Camila, now queen consort.
As shocking as the memoir is, it’s the interviews that also have us hooked. Harry sat down with Anderson Cooper on CBS’ 60 Minutes program, where Cooper dug a little deeper into Harry’s experiences with the Firm, particularly his stepmother Camilla. At one point, Harry even implied that she was “dangerous.” In case you live under a rock, Queen Camilla was once the mistress to King Charles while he was married to Princess Diana. Even after her death, the two remained an item until Camilla eventually married into the royal family…and made her way to the throne. But before any of that happened, Prince William and Harry asked their father to not marry her.
“We didn't think it was necessary. We thought that it was gonna cause more harm than good and that if he was now with his person, that—surely that's enough. Why go that far when you don't necessarily need to? We wanted him to be happy. And we saw how happy he was with her. So, at the time, it was, ‘OK,’” said Harry.
In his book, he wrote, "I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she'd be less dangerous if she was happy."
In his interview with Cooper, Harry implied that Camilla was dangerous in her desperate need to rehabilitate her image from the hated other woman into someone worthy of marrying a king.
“That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press. And there was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that,” said Harry.
And according to Harry, he was among the bodies “sacrificed on her personal PR altar."
In this day and age, PR might be the most important weapon the royal family has to staying in power, which explains the Firm’s (and Harry’s) obsessive drive in having a positive image. But with Harry all but painting Queen Camilla as the villainous stepmother and his brother Prince William as a bully, who knows how long the royal family still has?
When asked to justify writing a book that reveals the family’s intimate and private moments, Harry has just this to say: “The level of planting and leakings from other members of the family means that, in my mind, they have written countless books, certainly millions of words have been dedicated to trying to trash my wife and myself to the point where I had to leave my country.”
The war of the Windsors is on. And we’re here for the tea.
