See Ronald Ventura's Unique Car and Trunk Show Happening Now at Secret Fresh
Leading Filipino contemporary artist Ronald Ventura is showcasing his latest artworks at streetwear king Bigboy Cheng’s Secret Fresh Gallery in Ronac Art Center. According to the show’s curator Ruel Caasi, the artist amplifies the philosophy that art should be part of one’s lifestyle, an extension of oneself, even another layer of skin. He’s right, of course, as objects and possessions like a sports car and even our luggage that we bring along as we travel can be considered as an extension of ourselves and our personalities.
Ongoing until January 5, 2022, the exhibit is a car show and trunk show of sorts. For the talented and much sought-after artist, a speeding car is a form of sculpture: exuding elegance, power and the poetry of form, as well as a quicksilver streak that leaves bystanders in awe. Ventura’s art often leaves a mark on his audience, whether it’s his paintings, sculptures or installations.
In this latest show entitled Epidermic: Skin is All, Ventura uses the engine hoods of exotic sports cars from Porsche, McLaren and Maserati, as well as leather travel trunks from Louis Vuitton as his medium.
Late last year, Ventura and BenCab had a collaborative show also at Secret Fresh. With two of the biggest names in Philippine art, the event was also immortalized on a limited edition coffee table book written by Igan D’Bayan.
“Art should not be caged in a piece of square or rectangular space, tucked away inside secret rooms,” Ventura explains. Art has expanded its reach to lifestyle itself, a life lived in style, the very manner in which we operate upon this world.
