See Inside a Glass Cabin in Bulacan That Lets You Wake Up to Breathtaking Mountain Views

Some of life's biggest blessings come in surprising ways, and it was during one ride that contractor Francis Vizconde stumbled upon a mountainside gem.

"Nag-rides lang kami ng mga workers ko papunta dito sa DRT kasi hindi ko pa talaga naririnig yung DRT (Doña Remedios Trinidad) before," Francis tells the OG team.

Francis and his group happened to stay at a camping site at the time. So beautiful was the spot that he asked the owner if he could develop it and build glass cabins on the area, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As a contractor, it was advantageous and more economical for Francis to work on the project, as he had already had workers and various suppliers.

"Mas mabilis nagawa kasi hawak ko na yung mga tao, sarili ko na, and then mas nakatipid sa cost ng supplies," he shares.

Not long after, Kalawakan Glass Cabins was born. The glass cabin, which measures 30 square meters, sits on a 5,000s square meter property. They got the name from the name of the barangay—Kalawakan DRT. Unlike other places in DRT which may require trekking or a 4x4 ride to reach, Kalawan is accessible via motorcycles and sedans.

"During nighttime, sobrang ganda ng style, sobrang ganda ng place kasi kitang-kita mo talaga yung stars sa kalawakan," Francis says.

Kalawakan Glass Cabins has all the amenities of a glamping site: a mini kitchen, living area, loft bed and day bed.

Outside are a bonfire area, infinity pool, and outdoor dining area. There's also a café from which guests can order snacks and drinks.

Achieving the iconic look of the structure using tempered glass, however, was a challenge. 

"Hindi mo puwedeng ikabit yung glass 'pag basa yung framings so inaantay pa namin na umaraw talaga," Francis recalls. The rainy season and erratic caused them to delay the installation for more than two weeks.

"During construction kasi namin, medyo maulan, magulo yung climate dito sa Kalawakan so umulan nang bahagya, umulan lang, de-delay kami, aantay kami para umaraw ulit."

Still, the end result is nothing short of breathtaking. Guests get to wake up to fantastic views of not just one but two mountains—Biak-na-Bato and the Sierra Madre mountain range. 

Given the sheer size of the lot, Francis has more amenities in store for Kalawakan: an airsoft play area and shooting ranges, for instance. He also plans on opening the café to the public in the future. 

"Yung maganda kasi sa mga staycation places like this one—as an owner, 'pag may nakita ka na makakapag-improve pa ng site, gagawin mo lang siya, continuous yung pagpapaganda ng location."
