Boracay's Famous Coconut Ice Cream Is Coming to Manila

Come to (Coco) Mama.

The summer heat is bananas. The solution for cases such as this is to jetset to our favorite island, dive into some crystal waters, lounge around in essentially nothing; maybe grab a fat-free icy treat to enjoy beachside while keeping that trim physique we killed ourselves in the gym for. Unfortunately, that option has been taken off the table so while we sweat in suits under the humid city air, we're making do with airconditioning and copious amounts of convenience store ice cream.

But if you're especially missing Boracay and you're sick of the heat, we have some good news for you. Boracay's famous Coco Mama is coming. And it's coming soon.

Coco Mama is the perfect beach dessert. Cool, icy, yet totally healthy, it finds the middle ground between salvation...and sexy. It's ice cream made using coconut milk, so it's lactose-free, vegan, and has low glycemic index. According to an article in Shape magazine, coconut ice cream packs probably the same amount of fat as regular ice cream, but the medium-chain triglycerides in coconut fat helps with weight loss. It also has good cholesterol and is packed with antioxidants.

The little stall in D'Mall sells only this, plus a myriad of fruit toppings, but its popularity proves that you don't need an insane amount of items on the menu to appeal to everyone.

With Boracay on hiatus and people needing to chill, Coco Mama will be holding a popup in Manila at the Saturday Salcedo Market on May 12, 19, 26, and June 2 (open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Other eateries operated by the folks behind Sunny Side Café will also hold popups in the city in the coming months.
