Coming to Manila: The Coffee Shop Where the Harry Potter Series Was 'Born'
The Elephant House describes themselves as a "gourmet tea and coffee house and restaurant"—but Potterheads would well know the Edinburgh institution isn't just any old café in Scotland's capital. It's here that author J.K. Rowling was said to do her writing in the beginning stages of the Harry Potter series, earning it the moniker of being the "birthplace of Harry Potter". It won't be too long before you, too, can perhaps experience the magic for yourself—plane ticket optional. The Elephant House is soon opening at the new Greenhills Mall in San Juan!

The coffee house the Harry Potter series was "born" in is coming to Manila:
The upcoming Greenhills store will be The Elephant House's first international branch outside Edinburgh. This will be opening with the help of retail brand Museum Context (whose original Victoria Street location is known for its resemblance to the Potter universe's Diagon Alley), in partnership with the Philippines' own Visum Ventures (i.e., the folks behind Salt & Ice, Oh My Greek, and more).
"This franchise will offer Filipinos and tourists a unique and appealing experience, combining Harry Potter fandom, immersive ambiance, and merchandise sales,” says Visum Ventures' Founder and CEO John-Michael Hilton. You can expect to be able to down Scottish fare and their signature Elephant House blend coffee and tea drinks in a cozy ambience with old-world charm, similar to their Edinburgh location—apart from it housing a whisky bar that night owls can find solace at.
The Elephant House's Greenhills location is slated to open in December this year. The Edinburgh original first opened in 1995 and has since become an icon and tourist destination of sorts, especially among fans of the Harry Potter series—to say this is huge would be an understatement.
