These Are the Most Mispronounced Words in the World, According to Study

There are two kinds of people in the world: people who don't pronounce words they don't know… and then there are those who choose chaos and just mispronounce words without hesitation. If you're the latter, then knowing the most mispronounced words in the world might help you out a bit.

WordTips, a word finder, had its researchers analyze the most number of listens on Forvo, a pronunciation dictionary, in order to come up with a list of words that would normally keep us all tongue-tied.

The most mispronounced words in the world are cities, brands, and celebrities. Rio De Janeiro topped the list of cities while many had difficulty saying actor Saoirse Ronan's name. What's surprising, though—at least for us—is that people looked up the pronunciation of Google the most out of all the other brands.

A tip from WordTips? "Remember the next time you stumble on a tricky word, try to break it down into syllables, look for letter combinations you know or utilize online pronunciation databases to hear it expertly spoken by a range of different speakers," it said.
