Don Papa Rum officially launched the 3rd Annual Don Papa Art Competition, an open invitation for Filipino artists to reimagine its brand visual and story. As part of the winner’s prizes, his or her design will be the visual basis for the limited edition Don Papa Art Canister, thereby providing the artists a platform to reach a global audience.
For this year’s competition, Don Papa Rum has opened digital art as an accepted format, along with other two-dimensional flat media like painting, drawing, photograph, and print. The 10 best artworks will be displayed in the Don Papa Rum exhibit at Art Fair Philippines 2018, among which a winner will be chosen.
The grand winner stands to receive an exclusive four-week Artistic Residence Sojourn in New York City, USA, among other exciting prizes, while the winning artwork will be the visual basis for the Don Papa Limited Edition Art Canister 2018.
Artists, galleries, museums, and members of the Philippine media were invited to the launch gathering in Dulo Manila, which was co-hosted by the previous winner, Henrielle Pagkaliwangan of Tin-Aw Gallery.
Buy Rum, Take Art
Pagkaliwangan’s winning artwork “Field Notes for Papa Isio” is the featured design of this year’s limited edition art canister distributed in six countries: the Philippines, France, the UK, Italy, Czech Republic, and Denmark. It will be available in select retail stores nationwide.
“Field Notes for Papa Isio” is a straightforward yet symbolic artwork of Negros Island’s natural history, which framed the dualities that exist in Sugarlandia, the spiritual home of Don Papa. Using pen, ink, and watercolor on canvas, it tells the story behind the MassKara Festival of Bacolod, an illustrious symbol of resilience and happy disposition amidst crisis.
The first release of the art canister in 2016 gained positive reception from retailers and consumers worldwide, with 18,000 units sold. The art canisters have become a collectible item that Don Papa lovers certainly look forward to every holiday season. This year’s art canister is expected to sell 25,000 units globally.
*Registration for the art competition is open until December 8, 2017. For more information, visit Don Papa Rum’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DonPapaRum/
