Fine Spirits Are on the Shelf at The Whisky Library

The newest upmarket bar in the city might also be the most beautiful. The Whisky Library opened in July this year at the Grand Wing of Newport World Resorts and is already becoming a go-to for those who want a sophisticated atmosphere to go with their cocktails.

As its name suggests, The Whisky Library is a repository for some of the world’s finest whiskies and spirits. According to Kevin Tan, CEO of Alliance Global Group, the space was previously unused until he decided to turn it into a bar with a focus on different varietiies of the so-called "water of life." An enormous floor-to-ceiling “shelf” filled with bottles greets guests as they enter. There are over 240 brands of whiskies available, which is purportedly the largest collection anywhere in Manila.

Off to one side is a shelf featuring the Dalmore Constellation Series, which highlights some of the rarest (and tastiest) from the premium Scotch whisky brand. It’s a perfect example of synergy as Dalmore, of course, is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by billionaire Andrew Tan’s Emperador Inc, a unit of Alliance Global, which also owns Newport World Resorts. Other brands in AGI’s portfolio that can be enjoyed at The Whisky Library include Tamnavulin, Jura, Whyte & Mackay, The Singleton, among others.

Besides offering alcohol, The Whisky Library is also a cigar bar, and there is an expansive range of premium Old and New World stogies, including Cuban puros to robust Nicaraguan and Dominican varieties, for those who fancy a puff. 

The cigar bar also offers an assortment of gentler beverages and gourmet options for pairing including a USDA Beef Sirloin cooked sous vide garnished with dehydrated mushrooms and dark beer pear chutney.

There is fine leather furniture spread out across the floor, a spiral staircase that leads to a mezzanine level, and high crystalline chandeliers that illuminate the space.

The Whisky Library is undoubtedly a welcome addition to Manila’s already lively bar scene.
