Spaceman Is Adam Sandler's Next Dramatic Role

Adam Sandler has played a gambling-addicted jeweler, a basketball scout, and a little lizard named Leo. Now, he's taking his talents to space. Netflix's Spaceman, which will hit the streamer this March, marks another dramatic role for the the former Saturday Night Live! comedian. "I fled my planet," Sandler's character, Jakub, says in the very short teaser. "Through galaxies, through blackholes, through time. Then I found you."

The upcoming sci-fi film is based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfa?, which sends Sandler on an intergalactic rescue mission to find an alien (voiced by Paul Dano) from the beginning of time. For now, exactly what this alien looks like remains a mystery. Also, Sandler's astronaut is "desperate to fix things with his wife," according to the official Netflix description. Maestro's Carey Mulligan will play Jakub's wife. Following a quick 25-second teaser, that's about all audiences have to go on just yet.

"I really wanted to have a performance from him that had nothing to do with the Adam Sandler we all know," Swedish director Johan Renck (Chernobyl) told Netflix. "I don’t think people understand how [although] he may come across as funny and sweet and all that, he’s very intelligent, really smart, [and] profound." We'll see Dramatic Role Adam Sandler when Spaceman hits the streamer on March 1, 2024. If it's anything like his turn in the stellar Uncut Gems, we're in for something special.
