Ahsoka Season 2: Everything We Know

There's still (much) more story to tell.

At times, it feels wrong to think of Ahsoka as the first season of a brand-new series. The latest Star Wars spinoff on Disney+ is technically an extension of the character's appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett—but even those shows continued Ahsoka Tano's story in the Star Wars universe. Before Tano was played by Rosario Dawson, she was an animated character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and 75 episodes of Star Wars: Rebels. If you've been keeping track to the story so far, Ahsoka is more like Star Wars: Rebels Season Five.

So, longtime fans of Star Wars lore, dating all the way back to the animated series—and even 1990's novels including the Thrawn trilogy—were hyped for Ahsoka. Streaming services don't readily release viewer counts, but I assume that Ahsoka is making a subset of Star Wars fans very, very happy. As the series sets up many villains and introduces live-action heroes into the official Star Wars canon, audiences are finally seeing a continuation of Ahsoka's story. But will there be more than this eight-episode miniseries?

Well, the fact that Disney+ calls Ahsoka a "miniseries" isn't a good sign. Currently, Ahsoka is scheduled to conclude with its eighth episode on October 3, 2023. The series has set up many plot threads, however, and it would be a shame to see them all tied up in the next 40-minute installment. Grand Admiral Thrawn just finally showed his face, and Star Wars fans are certainly not ready to see him go just yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a second season of Ahsoka is dependent on the success of the Mando-verse as a whole. Her story is interlocked with the timelines of Mandalorian characters, and they're all still set to collide in a future Mandalorian movie. If anything is left over following the end of Ahsoka, it's possible that there will be avenue to explore those plot threads. Still, the best way may just to keep Ahsoka going and give the series a Season Two. If it gives me more space whales and hermit crab aliens, I'm all for it.
