When will Citadel be released?
The series will premiere its first two episodes on Prime Video on April 28, 2023. Then each episode will drop every Friday after. Save the following dates for every new Citadel episode release: April 28, May 5, May 12, May 19, and May 26.
What is Citadel about?
Citadel promises to be an action-packed series that follows a spy agency in the midst of a global conflict. The spy thriller will follow the two main characters, Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Singh (Priyanka Chopra), whose memories have been wiped clean. Before their bout of amnesia, the two were top spies of the global spy agency Citadel. But then the Citadel fell, and its rival agency, Manticore, rose to power. The two former spies embark on a mission to reclaim their memories and fight back against the rivals trying to kill them off.
Amnesia, spies, and epic fight scenes? Citadel already looks like it’s going to be a wild ride. The unexpected chemistry of Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra in the trailer will no doubt add to this sexy new spy thriller.
But it won’t all be guns and muscle. According to Madden, there’s going to be plenty of heart and drama as his character “explores the psyche of dealing with the consequences of things that you're not aware that you've done.”
Who is starring in Citadel?
Aside from Madden and Chopra, the cast also features Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick, Lesley Manville as Dahlia Archer, Osy Ikhile as Carter Spence, Ashleigh Cummings as Abby Conroy, Roland Møller as Anders Silje and Davik Silje, and Caoilinn Springall as Hendrix Conroy.
Who created Citadel?
Amazon brought in the big guns for the show. The Russo brothers are executive producers, and Newton Thomas Sigel, Brian Kirk, and the Russo brothers directed the episodes. Meanwhile, the story was created by Bryan Oh and Josh Applebaum, who previously produced High Fidelity, Cowboy Bebop, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
Will there be a sequel?
According to Madden, Citadel will be about “multiple characters and multiple storylines that all intertwine.” Citadel is going to be the jumping-off point for a huge franchise that already has plenty of spinoffs in the works.
The series has been described as a “global event” and the “mothership” of this soon-to-be mega-franchise. Several local language satellite series are in development, and these spinoffs will be set in the Italian Alps, India, Spain, and Mexico.
The spinoffs will be produced in different countries and shot in different languages. According to Prime, "All of the local series are meant to enhance the entire entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world.”
The Indian adaptation will star Varun Bhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. It will be directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK and produced by Amazon Studios. Meanwhile, the Italian series will be co-produced by Amazon Studios and Cattleya of ITV Studios.
