The First Teaser Trailer for Mikhail Red's Deleter Is Here

The first teaser trailer for Deleter has arrived. Directed by Mikhail Red, the film stars Nadine Lustre and promises a psychological thriller with a heavy serving of techno-horror. We’re breaking down everything we know about Deleter so far, from the story to the release date.

What Is Deleter About?

Deleter follows the story of Lyra, an online content moderator or "deleter." As a deleter, she filters and reviews some of the most gruesome content on the Internet on a daily basis. Lyra deletes a suicide video made by one of her co-workers and gets haunted by it.

An online content moderator who deletes a suicide video made by her co-worker. But the otherwise desensitized woman cannot escape from either her own troubled past or from a mysterious vengeful presence.

In an interview with Variety, Red talked about the film's production, as well as getting inside online content moderators' minds by interviewing actual deleters. He cited that he used the same techinique for Rekorder:

Production has been observing usual COVID-19 protocols but is scaled to a few locations to create a claustrophobic environment focusing on the conflicted lives of the social media censors and deleters, and exploring their psyche and shady line of work.

[The] Philippines is now the fastest growing hub for this outsourced work, mostly working for international clients in clandestine setups. We interviewed a lot of these deleters, some through online forums and deep web, using some anecdotes and their experiences to help us craft the world and character of Lyra. The technique is similar to my earlier work such as Rekorder, where I used multiple formats and mediums, cctv, webcam, cellphone footage, and viral videos.

Who's Involved With the Film?

In a tweet, Mikhail Red shared that Deleter will be his first time working with both Viva Films and Nadine Lustre. For the film, Red shares writing credits with his brother Nikolas Red, an editor, writer, and camera operator who worked on Putol and Dead Kids.

Deleter also stars Louise delos Reyes, McCoy de Leon, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Elia Ilano, and Bombi Plata.
