Endgame Easter Egg Reveals Secret Avengers Plan For Infinity Stones
Time travel can get tricky. If you're not careful you can start trampling on timelines and tying yourself up in knots and before you know it you're your own grandad.
Fortunately for the Avengers, fans haven't been able to identify too many paradoxes from their jaunts into the past looking for the Infinity Stones. With the DVD and BluRay release of Avengers: Endgame, though, a few bits of time-space debris have fallen to Earth.
As u/kobikwahbz pointed out on Reddit, when the Nebula from 2014 takes Thanos from 2014 into the present day, this screen flashes up on a screen.
On the right-hand side of the screen there are a few dates. There's the 2012 trip to New York and the events of Avengers: Assemble, and an aborted plan to jump to 2009 to a point when the Tesseract was presumably vulnerable. But then there's 2988. Nobody went to 2988 in Endgame. Why's that there?
"Hmmm the First Battle of Svartalfheim happened in 2988 BC and in your picture it looks like it’s on BC instead of AD," explained u/MarvelInfinityComics. "That battle is when Asgard defeated the Dark Elves and Malekith. The Aether was there."
2988 BC is when the Battle of Malekeith happened in Thor: The Dark World, which is chronologically the first time that an Infinity Stones turned up—the Reality Aether. Presumably there was a plan afoot to jump back to that point and grab the Stone while it was there, only to be thought better of. Apparently, though, this isn't the "important" Easter Egg the Russos say is still waiting to be found. Get rummaging.
