The Eternals 2 Announcement Keeps (Sort of) Getting Spoiled

Eternals was a big experiment for Marvel. Led by an Academy Award-winning indie director, Chloe Zhao, the film gave us a dozen new heroes with bizarre names like Kingo, Druig, and Pip the Troll. Fans are used to simpler names and plots! You know, man becomes iron or man becomes spider. So the confusing film about space cops created by a giant god robot was a little much for an audience simply just getting used to going back to the theater after the pandemic lockdown.

So, it made sense when Kevin Feige announced an insane amount of projects at Comic-Con, and there wasn't so much as a passing reference to Eternals. Given the mixed reception to the Marvel Cinematic Universe outing, which starred Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, and Kit Harington, it was understandable. Even though Marvel tagged on a title card at the end of Eternals that said the crew would return, we've heard nothing official about the future of the god-like team of heroes until now. Nate Moore, Marvel Studios' VP of Production and Development, told Phase Zero in an interview posted to YouTube that "I don't want to spoil anything, but we have not seen the last of those characters." Does that mean we'll be getting an Eternals 2, or could they show up in another superhero's film?

Well, friend, Patton Oswalt may have already spoiled that for us a couple of months ago. While the Merriam-Webster dictionary has yet to officially add "to Tom Holland" as a new verb in their lexicon, the action of spoiling the plot, details, or mere existence of a superhero film still occurs despite Marvel's efforts to crack down on their actors with looser lips. And Oswalt really pulled a Tom Holland when he told the TODAY show that there's going to be an Eternals sequel. Back in August, he got to talking about appearing as Pip the Troll alongside Harry Styles's Starfox in the post-credits scene of Eternals. "They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel," Oswalt said. "Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip." Have they announced an Eternals sequel, Patton? Have they?! They have not. So, Oswalt might have let something slip here. Let's just hope he's OK, and that Feige isn't shaking him down somewhere in a dark alley.
