The FDCP Just Launched Its New Streaming Service At Cannes
It's time to get reacquainted with the history of Filipino cinema, you cinephiles. Earlier this week, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) launched the FDCP Channel streaming platform at the Cannes Film Market.
Featuring 100 titles from some of the country's great auteurs, the first 140 films focus on modern masterpieces from the likes of Lino Brocka, Ishmael Bernal, Kidlat Tahimik, Brillante Mendoza, and more. The service also comes with 41,000 film heritage elements, which include exclusive reels and documentaries.
The platform is actually a repackaging of sorts of a project that was first launched in the middle of September 2020. It used to be a service specifically designed for the Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Eventually, it became a channel for FDCP events before eventually becoming the FDCP Channel.
“Our line-up is a thematic curation of films and audiovisual content, which can be used as alternative materials for inspiration and reference," expressed FDCP Chair and CEO Liza Diño at the launch event. "Our audience are the learners, educators, educational institutions, filmmakers and film enthusiasts.”
There are several tiers to the service.
Basic access is free and offers the public short films, panel discussions, and special events. Meanwhile, an subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) tier provides access to local and foreign films for P99 a month.
The transactional video on demand (TVOD) tier, on the other hand, gives users curated local and international films. There are various free and paid-for live-streamed special events available on the channel, too.
The FDCP also revealed that the six 120-seater cinematheques the council operate in the country have now reopened with the premieres of Filipino classics like Manila by Night, Genghis Khan, and Turumba. Cannes titles such as The Worst Person in the World, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and Berlin title Petit Maman are also showing at cinematheques nationwide.
