House of the Dragon: The Best Quotes From George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood

Before Game of Thrones ended—in pain and disappointment—George R. R. Martin approached HBO with a new show idea, one that would explore the family that entranced every GOT fan: The Targaryens.
With HBO’s green light, House of the Dragon was birthed. Created by GRRM and Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon was based on GRRM’s book Fire & Blood. Unlike his series A Song of Ice and Fire, Fire & Blood is not exactly a novel. It’s a historical text that recounts the story of the Targaryens, starting with Aegon I’s campaign to conquer Westeros. Written from the point of view of two Maesters, Maester Yandel and Archmaester Gyldayn, Fire & Blood has a touch of bias just as all history books do. It’s these gaps and filters that make room for the show to surprise us even if we already know how it’s going to end.

Fire & Blood might be written as an epic textbook, but GRRM still managed to insert some pretty memorable lines. Many of which point at the direction the show is going. If you’re not in the mood to read an entire book on fictional history, we’ve gathered the best quotes from Fire & Blood. We can only hope that they show up in House of the Dragon, too.
