So It Looks Like James Mangold Might Be Taking on the Swamp Thing for DC Studios
James Mangold is entering the DC extended universe, after all. James Gunn and Peter Safran's first chapter seems to be off to a good start, now that Mangold has been in talks to direct the iconic Swamp Thing.
Mangold is said to be a longtime fan of the supernatural hero. And he's made it pretty clear that he;s interested in the project. According to Variety, it was Gunn and Safran who approached the director with the idea.
If it pushes through, the deal will have Mangold taking on his second superhero project. He had wrote, directed, and produced Logan back in 2017. The film, which starred Hugh Jackman, was a critical success and was considered the apex of the X-Men franchise. These days, some of Mangold's upcoming films include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and the Bob Dylan biopic with Timothée Chalamet. In 2019, Mangold earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture for the sports drama Ford v Ferrari, which he directed and produced.

The news comes after Gunn and Safran announced their new lineup in the rebooted DC extended universe. They hope to showcase what they are calling "Gods and Monsters" in the first film and television titles since the reset. It's about investigating "the dark origins" of DC characters, Safran said during a press conference last Tuesday.
Mangold only fueled speculation after posting a clip of some Swamp Thing comics on his Twitter account.
Created by writer Len Wein and horror artist Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing first appeared as a separate storyline in 1971. We first saw him in film Swamp Thing back in 1982, which had been directed by horror legend Wes Craven. It was in the '80s that the character became its own phenomenon, with some help from Alan Moore, John Totleben, and Stephen R. Bissette.
