Today has been a whirlwind for Friends fans. First, the tense anticipation for Friends: The Reunion to drop on HBO Go. Then HBO Go's subsequent crash due to millions of fans waiting 17 years for this moment. And then when the streamer finally did start working again, many of us were an emotional mess watching the crew unite for the first time in years.

We wept over the updated Friends intro with the cast as they are now. We rejoiced when Phoebe sang "Smelly Cat" one more time, this time with Grammy winner and Friends fan Lady Gaga to accompany her. And we promptly lost our shit when we found out that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer were infatuated with one another and almost dated in real life.

Could this GET any better?

In the Friends reunion special, Aniston and Schwimmer revealed that there was a point when the two had feelings-feelings!-for one another at the same time, and it just before their characters Ross and Rachel actually got together on the show.

"The first season, I had a major crush on Jen," said Schwimmer. And it wasn't one-sided. According to Aniston, the feeling was "reciprocated."

"At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship," Schwimmer said. "And we never crossed that boundary. You know, we respected that."

And in true Joey fashion, Matt LeBlanc called "bullshit," to the amusement of the rest of the cast.
But the two affirmed that it never went beyond their on-screen romance, and their first kiss was the moment Ross and Rachel first kissed in Central Perk.

"I remember saying one time to David, 'It's going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television,'" said Aniston. "Sure enough, the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. But we just channelled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel."

The two almost-lovebirds thought that they'd kept their crushes under wraps despite admittedly cuddling on the couch in between takes. But in the true spirit of Monica and Chandler, Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry also called bullshit and said they were very much aware of what was happening.

But alas, nothing ever actually happened. Jennifer Aniston would go on to marry, then divorce, Brad Pitt. And David Schwimmer went on to marry, then divorce, Zoe Buckman.

Since they're both single now, is it too late to still hope they're endgame?

The Friends Reunion is now streaming on HBO Go Philippines.
