That Endgame Time Travel Plot Hole Isn't A Plot Hole Actually, Say Russo Brothers
The Russo Brothers have finally stitched up an apparent plot hole in the slightly confusing time-hopping conclusion to Avengers: Endgame.
During an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, the co-directors tackled a longstanding argument among fans about how Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, got back to the present day from the alternate timeline he set in motion by putting all the stones back in their proper place in spacetime.
"Can you help me/everyone understand how Captain America got back to the main time line when he returned all the stones, because it contradicts the time travel theory stated by Banner earlier in the movie," asked u/Reggie_48.
"[Bruce] Banner said that when you go back in time you make a seperate [sic] time line, so it doesn't effect [sic] the past, but if Captain America was in a different time line when he returned the stones, how did he back to the main time line without the use of the quantum suits[?]"
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder. The Russos, however, were having none of it.
"You are correct in that he would have had to have worn the quantum suit, using a Pym particle to make the jump," one or other of Joe and Anthony wrote. "He's not wearing the suit on the bench, because that is not the exact moment to which he returned."
So, he used the quantum suit to blast himself out of one timeline and into another, ditched the suit, then spent the rest of his days toddling about with Peggy and waiting for the day when he could see his mates again. Simple.
