Tom Cruise Was a Mother Hen on the Set of Mission: Impossible 7

Tom Cruise might be fine with jumping out of helicopters and planes for his stunts, but he’s apparently a mother hen if his co-stars have light fight scenes.

Tom Cruise might be fearless when it comes to his own stunts, but the minute his co-stars have to do the same, he’s 100 percent a mother hen. At least, that’s according to his Mission: Impossible co-star Simon Pegg.

“He is also incredibly ‘clucky’ when it comes to us doing stuff. Genuinely, if we have to do anything, even though it’s something utterly innocuous compared to what he’s doing, he is concerned,” shared Pegg, who reprises his role as Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

“I had a fight sequence in Rogue Nation. This stunt guy, Robert, had to throw me against the wall. And while we were doing it, Tom was clucking around the monitor going, ‘It’s a bit much.’ [Laughs] He is very motherly around all of us when we have to do stuff, which is, let’s face it, a bare-faced cheek considering what we have to watch him do!”

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is flinging himself off a cliffside for the sake of a scene. Cruise, considered the king of doing his own stunts, is religiously against using CGI for stunts he can do himself—regardless of the dangers to his own life.

“It’s funny, I remember when me and Rebecca [Ferguson, who plays Ilsa Faust] said bye to him when we were in New Zealand [on Fallout] and he was off to do that helicopter sequence. There was a sense that we were saying goodbye in a slightly, ‘Well, maybe see you...’ kind of way [laughs],” joked Pegg.

“But you can't tell him. He’s not going to listen to you because he's not going to suddenly go, ‘Oh, okay, no, I won’t do that.’ Because he puts the film first. His highest priority is to deliver the most authentic and amazing experience for the audience. He genuinely dedicates his life to that.”

If it’s even possible, Tom Cruise upped the ante in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One with a stunt that has us shaking in our boots just watching hate behind-the-scenes videos. Mother hen he might be when it comes to his co-stars, but when it comes to himself, there’s no denying Cruise is fearless.

Catch Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One in cinemas nationwide on July 12.
