Trese's Limited Edition Hardcover Unveils the Behind-the-Scenes Secrets of the Anime Show
Trese made history as Netflix’s first Filipino animated series. The on-screen adaptation of the cult classic comics brought Philippine monsters to life, allowing viewers from around the world to admire Philippine mythology. Trese follows supernatural detective Alexandra Trese as she solves crimes and murders in Manila’s underworld.
Based on the comics by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, Trese was adapted by animation veteran Jay Oliva, who’s also gifting fans with a premium hardcover book with the help of Globe Platinum and Summit Books. Titled The Art Behind Netflix’s Trese, the exclusive hardcover will feature 30 never-before-seen storyboards, as well as commentary from Oliva, Tan, and Baldisimo.
Only 100 copies will be made of the premier hardcover, which will also come with a certificate of authenticity personally signed by Jay Oliva. The book comes in a felt-lined, deluxe box, and will also include a water-resistant poster with exclusive art from Oliva himself.

Olivia, an animation legend, worked on the likes of The Dark Knight Returns and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox before Trese came around. And when it did, he adapted the comics to screen to honor the stories from Philippine mythology that colored his childhood.
“I’ve adapted many stories and characters in my career, but I believe that this time, it has meant more to me because it allowed me to reconnect to the stories of my childhood, where my parents would tell me about a place called the Philippines and I would romanticize its creatures and myths in my young mind,” he says. “Trese is my love letter to those stories.”
In turn, The Art Behind Netflix’s Trese is a love letter to the artists and animators that made the show come alive. The hardcover will tell Trese’s story from page to screen, and perhaps inspire readers to become artists along the way.
“This book is a sneak peek into Jay’s passion, and if you’re someone always yearning to create worlds like we do, it might nudge you to embark on that mission,” shared Kajo Baldisimo.
