Easter Eggs You Missed at the Eraserheads’ Huling El Bimbo Reunion Concert

‘One last ride.’ Those were the words I overheard from a fellow Eraserheads fan at the ‘Huling El Bimbo’ concert Thursday night at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque. People were ready to witness arguably the most influential band in the Philippines get back together to play their most iconic songs , many of which got us through the highs and lows of our lives.
Fans weren't disappointed as they were treated to an electric performance from Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raimund Marasigan.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted several Easter eggs throughout the show. Some were hiding in plain sight., while others took a while to figure out. Here are some of them:
1 | The inverted E
Onstage, it was hard not to notice the gargantuan inverted E that has come to symbolize the band. Theis inverted E was actually popularized in the Circus and Cutterpillow album covers. It was basically a stylized and angsty way of writing the band’s name.
2 | Cutterpillow Art
During the concert's first set, the band played virtually all songs in the album Cutterpillow in sequence. And if you noticed, there were graphics shown on the LED screens before they played each song. These were actually the graphics at the back of the Cutterpillow album. Designed by Eraserheads’ close friend Joey “Cowpunk” Navera, these iconic drawings aren't just random doodles. Every one symbolizes the corresponding track on the album.
3 | Sticker Happy Piano
The iconic piano on Eraserheads’ album cover Sticker Happy was burned by Ely Buendia himself in The Final Set concert in 2009. The soul, or should I say, the stickers of that piano made an appearance on the LED screens once again as the band played "Spoliarium," a song that is also on Sticker Happy. As Ely Buendia said at the concert “Let’s think of the future and honor the past.”
