After nearly three years, the world-famous Glastonbury Music Festival, a five-day festival set in the sunny hills of Pilton in Somerset, England, is back with an all-new lineup consisting of the some of the best music stars from all over the globe. From indie rock royalty to pop superstars, Glastonbury is also home to grassroots acts who have been working their entire lives to be on the same stage as the greats. Some of the more notable headliners in recent years include Kanye West, Radiohead, Noel Gallagher, Jay-Z, and more.
In 2020, Paul McCartney was supposed to be the big main act, until the festival was canceled at the onset of the pandemic.
But this year’s edition of the festival features arguably the best of the best from every corner of the planet, including headline slots from contemporary music masterminds such as Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish to living legends like McCartney, Diana Ross, and Elton John. What makes it all the more exciting for non-attendees is the inclusion of the acts that made their mark on the online during the two years we were all stuck at home because of COVID. Notable names in the roster include hyperpop duo 100 Gecs, Gen-Z pop princess Olivia Rodrigo, indie-folk troubadour Phoebe Bridgers, hardcore heroes Turnstile, and Filipino-British singer-songwriter Beabadoobee, just to name a few.
Like all dream festivals we’ve been eyeing, Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavvis promises festival-goers that for the next year or so, they’re be looking at acts from all over the world to earn a spot to play in the biggest English festival. But the 2022 edition, which happens June 22 to 26, he promises “is going to be quite an exceptional event.”
