Joji's Piss in the Wind is Out Next Year, Leans into Melancholy in Latest Track

The resurfaced R&B and alternative megastar Joji has finally given us something to look forward to musically next year with a fourth full-length album called “Piss in the Wind,” which is set for release on February 6. This comes as he drops yet another sub two-minute track called “If it Only Gets Better” that sees the musician go back to his melancholic ballad roots even if it has a runtime of only a minute and eight seconds.

Joji’s latest snippet, if you can call it that, has him leaning into a nylon-stringed classical guitar plucked slowly while being drowned in reverb. The electronic percussion then comes in a somewhat unorthodox time signature, but then levels out as the song moseys along.

He also has beautiful, sweet vocal harmonies to round out the track that leaves us wanting more. The singer/producer has been absent from the alternative music circuit since 2022 before dropping his gritty comeback track “Pixelated Kisses.”

"If it only gets better from here If it only gets better from here,  Then what's there to change about it? Shit, I just won't think about it," the singer croons. And that's your lot for the lyrics or this is basically the whole song barring the instrumentals.

"Pixelated Kisses" saw mixed reactions and reviews but a lot of music fans stood hopeful for Joji's creative evolution, showing a bold turn as he showed a preference toward glitchy hardcore sonic lanscapes in his return.

It was his first single under the Virgin Music label and was rumored to be a new direction production-wise as the Japanese-Australian artist is expected to be more hands-on in the conceptualization of his future projects in this new era.

The critically acclaimed singer is also back on top of streaming charts, generating tens and millions of streams upon releasing his comeback tracks.

We are likely to get a blend of his recent sonic experiments consisting of intentionally messy, raw, and in-your-face concepts and sounds as well as his trademark smooth and melodic cuts found on his last LP and a certified Platinum record Smithereens (2022).

Joji, we beg of you throw us a bone and give us more fleshed out music to keep us busy that runs at least two minutes long or longer.
