Weezer Is Finally Making It to Manila For Plus63 Music Festival 2023

Weezer, the alt-rock band famous for songs like “Island in the Sun,” “Buddy Holly,” and “Say It Ain’t So,” is finally coming to Manila. The band fronted by Rivers Cuomo is one of the headliners of this year’s Plus63 Music Festival, which is happening on October 14, 2023 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque City. 

Organizers of the Plus63 Festival announced the first wave of performers for the festival last week. Weezer will be joined by local artists Lola Amour, PlayerTwo, and mxmToon. More acts will be revealed in the coming weeks.

First staged in 2016, Plus63 Festival is an annual music festival that has attracted some pretty big names in music over the years, including Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, LANY, and Joji, among many others. Previously only staged in Cebu, this is the first time the music fest will happen in Manila.

Weezer is composed of Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner. The band has its roots in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, but hit the big time when their eponymous debut album (also called the Blue Album) dropped in 1994. The first single was the enormously catchy “Undone (The Sweater Song).” The band has since released multiple other LPs over the years, buut of particular note are Pinkerton (in 1996), Weezer (the Green Album, in 2001), and Make Believe (in 2005).

The band will make stops in Australia and Singapore before making their way to Manila for the Plus63 Music Festival.
