TikTok Is Launching an Adult-Only Option, But It Won't Become OnlyFans

TikTok has become the social media juggernaut of the decade. Almost overnight, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram became the place for oldies, while the kids took charge of TikTok. But those kids are now growing up, and TikTok plans to grow up with them, figuratively, that is. The platform plans to launch an adult-only option to allow creators to target viewers who are 18 years old or older. 

Now, get your mind out of the gutter. Our gut reaction was to think of OnlyFans too, but apparently, TikTok plans to stay nudity-free. The R-18 option will focus on moderating adult discussions, jokes, and skits—the sort of thing parents wouldn’t want their kids watching. 

“Perhaps a comedy routine is better suited for people over age 18. Or, a host may plan to talk about a difficult life experience and they would feel more comfortable knowing the conversation is limited to adults,” explained TikTok in a statement. 

We can already think of a slew of R-18 videos and streams making their way to everyone’s feed. NSFW Reddit stories, NSFW TikTok trends, NSFW movie edits. Really, some people are way too comfortable on that app. 

On a serious note, TikTok’s move is part of the platform’s efforts to moderate its content to “keep our community safe.” The platform is also upping the age requirement for creators who livestream. TikTok will soon only allow creators 18 years old or older to livestream instead of 16 years old. 

But if adult-only content is what you’re looking for, then OnlyFans is still around.
