9 Over-the-Top Date Ideas for the Gentleman Who Wants to Go the Extra Mile
The extraordinary man has extraordinary tastes. A dinner date? That's what you do on Saturday nights. Valentine's Day is an entirely different ball game—and it's time to level up. This is the moment when you should say "I love you" in a big way, the kind you can show off in social media and get tons of likes.
Showing love comes in different forms, but if you have money to spend, why not make your significant other feel like a million bucks?
Rent an island
No one wants to go through the Metro traffic all for the thrill of a staycation. One of the perks of living in the Philippines is that you can choose from over 7,100 islands for your next vacation. If you don’t own one (yet), you can rent islands in Palawan for as low as P20,000 per night.
Bamboo Island can go as high as P70,000 but you split it with your 25 closest friends to share the brunt of the bill. The Ariara Island, also in Palawan, will set you back around P23,000 to P34,000, but it comes with a complete staff to pamper you throughout your trip.
Feeling adventurous? Brother Island offers a complete outdoor experience. Rates begin at P20,600 for a minimum of two nights. NoaNoa Island, on the other hand, is the perfect diving spot, with over 70 hectares of coral reefs. Packages range from P280,000 to P350,000.
Go on a helicopter ride
Yes, Uber chopper was short-lived, but there is still something glamorous about taking a ride in a helicopter. Air transport providers such as Philjet, Airgurus, and Manila Helicopter Tours also offer aerial tours around different cities. AirTaxi, in particular, lets you cruise through Manila, Cebu, and Boracay in aerial style. More than just a transport service, their Taal Aerial Tour, for example, includes lunch at Antonio’s in Tagaytay. It fetches around P82,900 for a maximum of three people.
Relax and rejuvenate in the great outdoors
Relax in luxury. A popular spot is The Farm at San Benito in Batangas, which is known even abroad as one of the best medical spas in the world. Famous for treatments like organic weight loss and environmental detox, their memberships start at USD15,000 which is already good for 10 years. There's also Nature Wellness Village in Tagaytay. With packages that fall between P10,500 and P12,500, it offers Filipino-inspired massages and other spa treatments for couples.
Sonya’s Garden (http://sonyasgarden.com/) in Cavite is another establishment that has mastered the “art of doing nothing” with their creative and therapeutic lessons, as well as spa packages. Their massage packages are priced around P3,024 while their bed and breakfast deals range from P3,000 to P5,000 per night.
If you can afford to go out of town for a while, Tirta Spa in Boracay also offer a plethora of services, inspired by relaxation treatments from around the world. Their Couples Retreat package of body scrub, Vichy rain shower, aromatherapy flower bath, plustheir signature massage costs P14,500 per couple.
Sightsee—on a yacht
Sail away, even if it's just for a few hours. You can rent a party yacht at Manila Luxury for a night out with around 40 people. Or, you can also go on a simple cruise around Manila Bay or Corregidor with Sun Cruises. For their Manila Bay Cruise, a roundtrip fee, dinner buffet, and live entertainment would cost a mere P650 per person from Fridays to Sundays and P550 Mondays to Thursdays. For their Corregidor Cruise, a package tour fee would cost P2,550 per person on a weekday and P2,749 on weekends. For an additional fee, you may also include activities such as kayaking, zipline, lights and sounds show at the Malinta Tunnel, tunnel lateral tour, and sunset viewing in your itinerary.
Enjoy an intimate meal, hire a personal chef
Plato PH has allowed hungry diners into the homes of world-class Filipino chefs. They have a Valentine’s Day package ready for only P2,650 per head consisting of an eight-course meal prepared by Chef Lica Ibarra of MasterChef Asia. The menu consists of Blue Cheese Takoyaki, Pickled Egg Salad, Lobster Ravioli, Seared Scallops, Watermelon Lime Granita, Laksa Chicken Wings, Nori Crusted Wagyu Cubes, Guava Lime Pie, and a choice of red wine or coffee. This is available only on February 14and 24, so if you’re planning to have your date on another day, you can still go to Plato PH and check out what the other chefs are preparing.
Ride a hot air balloon, or go sky diving, paragliding
The Clark Hot Air Balloon Festival, scheduled just in time for Valentine's Day, allows couples to rent a hot-air balloon for a short ride for USD350 per person. For optimum view, the rides are timed during sunrise or sunset. Tandem sky diving (USD400/per person) and paragliding (USD150/person) are also available at the festival.
If you want to avoid the crowd, Aero Tours also offer tandem sky diving in Cebu, Vigan, and Davao Oriental for only P18,000. Sky Dive Cebu has the same thing for the same price, but you may add P1,000 for a suave beach landing.
Arrive in style
Sometimes, you only need to upgrade one detail in an otherwise "classic" date. Make your dinner extra fancy by picking up your S.O. in a grand way. Rent a limousine. Companies like R33 Limo and Manila Luxury can cover your needs. Limousines PH rents out their Chevrolet Suburban for USD450 for eight hours within the Metro and for USD650 if you’re driving farther out. Their Chrysler 300C can be rented for the same amount of time for USD350 in the metro and USD450 for outside the metro. These rates are inclusive of chauffeur services but professional security services can be added for an extra fee.
If you can wait… You can also dine in the sky
Dinner in the Sky will be arriving in the Philippines soon. This concept dining started in Belgium in 2007 and has expanded to other prominent cities like Paris, Rome, Athens, and Kuala Lumpur. Twenty-two dinner guests are suspended mid-air, approximately 150 feet, as they enjoy a five-course meal. Dinner in the Sky has been teasing their arrival in the Philippines since mid-2016, but no official date has been given yet. In the meantime, you can sign up on their website for updates.
