Top sex positions for burning calories
The top sex position if you want to burn off calories is the Butter Churner. According to a study by Lelo.com, on average, couples can burn a combined 196 calories through this sex-exercise in just 15 minutes. That’s roughly the same amount of calories in a glazed donut, or a tablespoon of peanut butter. The study also says that the position is more effective for the male partner, who can burn more calories by, um, “churning the butter.”
In second place is The Standing position, which burns around 171.5 calories in total. Like the Butter Churner, this position is also more calorie-burning for men.
Third on the list of the most calorie-burning sex positions is the Kneeling Wheelbarrow. According to the study, the position requires upper body strength and can burn 156.5 calories while also working out the arms.
The Lotus ranks fourth on the list, allowing couples to burn 143.5 calories together while sex-ercising. In the US, this is the second most sought-after position, generating 4.5 million searches.
And at fifth place is the always popular Doggy Style, which burns 142.5 calories on average for the couple. However, the penetrating partner can burn almost twice as many calories as the receiving one.
At sixth to 10th place are, in order: the Legs Up (121.5 calories and also the most -searched sexual position in America); the Squat (119 calories and burns the most calories for females); the Eagle (107.5 calories); the Sixty-Nine (94.5 calories); and the Cowgirl (93.5 calories). Like the Sixty-Nine and the Squat, females burn at least double as many calories as their male partners.
According to the study, the calories were calculated by analyzing the average adult male and female body weights. The duration of the sexual activity was set at 15 minutes, and the PTPioneer fitness experts helped to examine the difficulty and breathing intensity of each position.
“Exploring new positions can benefit the sexual experience for both partners,” says Luka Matutinovi?, chief marketing officer of Lelo.com. “However, it's important to consider each individual's physical abilities and comfort level. For example, the Butter Churner, known for its high-calorie burn, demands flexibility and strength from both individuals involved. Communication is key to making sure that both partners are comfortable and physically capable of engaging in those types of sexual activities.”
