One of the Best Resorts in Tagaytay Isn't Along the Ridge
Admittedly, one of the main draws of Tagaytay is the spectacular views of Taal Lake. (At least, when the volcano isn’t on one of its temper tantrums). But the city has more to offer: the cool weather, exciting places to eat and drink, and the overall atmosphere of being one with nature so close to the city. And all of these things are on offer at a resort that’s staking a serious claim as the best in Tagaytay.
The approach to Anya Resort is your first clue that a stay here is far from the typical Tagaytay experience. After a security check with a sentry inside the guardhouse (only checked-in guests and diners at the restaurant are allowed inside), you’ll pass a long pathway flanked on both sides by tall trees. It’s a fitting welcome to what promises to be an extraordinary experience.
The resort itself is a modern luxury estate that sits in the middle of luscious green fields. Highly trained staff ensures that the check-in process is a breeze so you’re whisked off to your room as soon as possible. However, in the event that your room isn’t ready yet, you’ll be invited to have a drink or light snacks at the Samira Restaurant one floor up. Ask for a table al fresco so you’ll get sweeping views of the property. (If he happens to be passing by General Manager Mikel Arriet will be sure to say hello and ask you how else he can make sure that your stay is nothing less than perfect).
What sets Anya apart from many other resorts in the area is the careful attention to detail inside your room. Book one of the 78 suites and whichever one you get is arguably the best you’ll come across anywhere in Tagaytay: hardwood floors, tasteful furniture, a platter of fresh fruits, and welcome drinks chilling inside the refrigerator.
The bathroom is massive, with his-and-hers vanity, bathtub, and rain shower, among other amenities. And of course, the bedroom is meticulously designed—neutral tones, soft but firm mattress, and windows that frame relaxing verdant views—so you’ll never want to leave.
Of course, you’d want to step out at some point to take a dip in the heated pool or walk around and enjoy the soothing sounds of nature. There’s also a fitness studio, a library, and even an “edible” garden where chefs from the restaurants source some of their ingredients.
Anya Resort also takes a more holistic approach to relaxation and wellness, which is why it offers not just massage and spa services at Niyama Wellness Center, but medical treatments under partner institution European Wellness Retreat (EWR). More than offering beauty and rejuvenation packages, EWR is a medical facility that helps “rebuild health at a cellular level.” Clients can expect a full health assessment and recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic methods using high-tech equipment that matches European standards. Even if you’re not staying at Anya, it’s a good idea to book an appointment at EWR if you’re concerned about your body’s immune system and ask for professional advice on boosting your health.
But arguably the best thing about Anya is its food. Samira restaurant serves Spanish-Mediterranean fare by way of the Philippines and a meal here is a true highlight of your stay. Try the Goat Cheese Ravioli (with the cheese sourced from local suppliers), and the Fish Drenched in Olive Oil with Potatoes. While the cuisine was already impressive when we visited in early March, we were recently told that esteemed Spanish chef Chele Gonzalez has taken over the kitchen at Samira so that’s reason enough for a repeat visit.
The takeaway at Anya Resort is that you don’t have to look at a place with a view of Taal Lake to enjoy Tagaytay.
