Why This Family Man Built a Tiny Home in a Huge Farm

A dream home is usually associated with images of a big house with all the rooms and amenities. But Max Raymundo gifted his wife with a tiny home, just big enough for everything that matters. 

Max’s gift to his wife is not your typical dream home. Instead of a grand mansion, he chose to build a tiny home in Villa Rizalina Farm Resort in Culion, Palawan. The 5x5-meter residence or 15x15 meters including the surrounding pools and pavilion is just enough to fit everything that matters to them, and it reflects their values of spending quality time with each other.

“Gusto namin maliit lamang. Ako, as a tatay, gusto ko pagpasok ko kita ko agad ang anak ko, at asawa ko, kaya we have this tiny, sweet home,” he said. 

“Don't aim for huge houses or homes. Ang importante is alam niyo na komportable kayo na makakatira. Pangalawa, lahat ng gusto niyo sa loob ng bahay ay mailagay ninyo. Try to really target for a house na kasya kayo, at magkikita kita at mag-uusap-usap kayo araw-araw,” he added. 

According to Max, he and his wife preferred a small home so that they can immediately see their child and each other when they are at home and spending time together. He emphasized that it’s important to aim for a house that is comfortable for the family and where all their desired amenities can be accommodated. In their case, their tiny home is the perfect choice.

The living area of their home is notable for its absence of a television. Max wanted it to be a space for rest and conversation, where they can spend quality time with each other. “Ang living area namin maliit at walang TV. Because as a family, we prefer na kapag nagkukwentuhan, it’s really our quality time with one another.”

Their living area is small, but it’s enough to fit their family’s needs. Max’s favorite area is the bar, and beside it is a full-length mirror that also serves as a door to their walk-in dressing room, toilet, and bath. Sharing an anecdote about it, he said,  “Laging naa-amaze ang aming mga bisita, kasi lagi nila iniisip, nasaan ang CR niyo.” 

Their sleeping area is on the second floor, while the attic is used as their child’s play area or a resting space for guests.

The house features big windows that let natural light and air into their home, and they serve as frames for the beautiful natural landscape around them.

Most of the pieces of furniture in their home are sourced from local artists and suppliers, including a black sofa that resembles one from Cardo Dalisay’s house in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. Max shared that he was a big fan of the show and wanted to have a similar sofa in his home.

Before the house and resort were built in 2019, they were raising livestock and poultry in the area. When they finally turned a profit, Max thought of surprising his wife with a gift. Their 3-hectare farm has now become the Villa Rizalina Resort Farm, where guests can enjoy organic farming and relaxing accommodations surrounded by nature.

“Nagsimula kami na magkaroon ng bahay at ng ganitong landscape nang kumita ang aming babuyan at aming manukan. I started thinking ano kaya ang pinakamagandang gift ko sa wife ko,” he said.  

Max’s gift to his wife is a testament that a dream home is not always about the size and grandeur. A home can be small yet comfortable, with all the amenities that matter to the family. Max’s value to put priotity on spending quality time with his family and supporting local artists and suppliers are also reflected in their home.

The Villa Rizalina Resort Farm is not only a gift to his wife but also a gift to the environment and to their guests who seek a peaceful escape into nature.

“We want this to be an example of organic farming and an example of a resort that would display the timeless beauty of nature,” Max shared with pride.
