The Cavitex Extension Linking Merville to C5 Is 95% Done

A segment of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) from Merville to E. Rodriguez Avenue is about 95 percent complete, the Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) said on Thursday (June 9). 

Segment 3A2 covers the 1.6-kilometer Cavitex C5 Link Flyover Extension, which will be connected to the already-operational 2.2-kilometer Cavitex C5 Link. 

Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Executive Director Alvin A. Carullo inspected the Segment 3A2 earlier this week. 

“We are pleased to see the progress of the Cavitex C5 Link,” Carullo said in a statement issued by CIC. “We look forward to it serving an estimated 15,000 motorists, helping lessen their travel time from Slex to Pasay, Taguig and Paranaque, thereby helping decongest some of our local roads.”

CIC has also discussed the traffic management plan for the area once the extension opens. The plan involves transferring the Merville entry and exit ramp in front of the Shell gas station on C5 Southlink and installation of traffic signs in coordination with local authorities for better traffic flow.

CIC is a unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. Its President, Raul L. Ignacio, said construction for Cavitex’s other segment, Segment 2: Cavitex R1 Expressway to Sucat Interchange, is now about 30 percent complete. This segment will connect the expressway to the Sucat Interchange, bypassing traffic from Sucat Road and Quirino Avenue and helping cut down travel time between the two areas by around 30 minutes. 

“With Cavitex C5 Link flyover extension opening soon, we urge our motorists to have an Easytrip RFID installed and use it when traveling through our expressways, such as Cavitex and Cavitex C5 Link for seamless travel, and avoiding long queues at the cash lanes,” Ignacio said. 

The entire Cavitex C5 Link project is expected to be completed by 2023. The 7.7-kilometer expressway is expected to benefit more than 50,000 motorists and help reduce travel time from Cavitex to Makati, Taguig, and Pasay by 45 minutes. It will also help decongest EDSA, MIA Road, Roxas Boulevard, and other major thoroughfares.
