A Vietnam-based startup founded by a Filipino won Best Newcomer at this year’s ASEAN Startup Awards.

MoveUp.app, a platform for online onboarding and training of teams founded by Filipino entrepreneur Paul Espinas, bested over 20 other startups from the region to win the award. The category seeks to recognize a company “up to two years old that has shown the greatest development over the last year based on growth, innovation, and impact with their product/service.”

According to its profile, MoveUp.app seeks to create a conducive work environment in a remote and virtual set-up. Espinas said the goal of the company is to enable “young professionals to continuously ‘move up’ through accessible and relevant training content.”

In a Facebok post, Espinas said the win was unexpected.

"I am glad the efforts are recognized in a way we never expected or even dreamed of," Espinas, who is a graduate of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, said. "The mission continues with the people in the team, including myself, empowered and inspired to make continuous learning ACCESSIBLE, fun and effective for people and organizations... so we can MoveUp together."
