Globe’s mobile data traffic for the first half of the year reached 1,761 petabytes, which is a 59-percent increase from last year, the company reported on Monday (August 9). It is also 182 petabytes more than the 1,579 petabytes reported by rival telco Smart during the same period.

One petabyte is equal to one million gigabytes of data.

For the Ayala-owned company, this is an indication that it has outperformed its biggest competition and is clearly a sign that customers prefer its mobile internet services.

“Our relevant offers along with a markedly improved network experience shows that we are hitting the sweet spot of our customers,” Ernest L. Cu, Globe president said. “We will do more to deepen our relationship with our customers with services that will enrich their lives.”

Cu offered other updates about the business, including a total of 641 new cell towers installed and 8,175 site upgrades completed in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Laguna, Iloilo, Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Cebu, Bulacan and Pampanga. He also said that the company has completed its network expansion in sveral provinces, including Pangasinan, Misamis Oriental, Nueva Ecija, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac and Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Siquijor and Guimaras.

“We are very happy that customers continue to prefer the Globe network.  We aim to provide an elevated customer experience through better content, affordable offers, worthy promos and responsive customer service,” Cu said.

Globe’s net income surged 13 percent to P13 billion in the first half of 2021 from P11.5 billion in the same period last year. The company cited prudent management of costs and expenses as well as the favorable effects of the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (Create) Law for the increase. Meanwhile, consolidated services revenues increased four percent to P75.5 billion from P72.4 billion driven largely by its fixed and mobile businesses.

The analytics platform showed the PLDT-owned network with a speed score of 44.70 during the first half of the year. Rival Globe, on the other hand, had a speed score of 24.89.
