Globe Offers Free Calls and WiFi to Earthquake Victims in Abra

Globe Telecom on Wednesday offered free cell services to affected residents in Abra, the epicenter of the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck North Luzon.

While Globe connections remained accessible during the earthquake, the telco deployed a Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging and Libreng WiFi station at the Bangued Plaza in Abra, adjacent to Lagangilang town.

Residents can make free calls to their families and charge their mobile phones. The services, which also include free texts and WiFi connectivity, were established with the local government of Bangued and will be available for at least three days.

Globe said services in the area remain available and stable.

“Our technical teams immediately assessed our network and we found no damage to our infrastructure. Our network is stable. Customers, emergency workers and local authorities in quake-hit areas may expect reliable connectivity, which is crucial in addressing urgent concerns in the aftermath of this powerful temblor,” said Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto.

For the safety of its employees, Globe temporarily closed stores in Vigan and Candon in Ilocos Sur, San Fernando in La Union, and the Globe Easy Hub in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

Globe will issue announcements regarding the status of the aforementioned branches in the coming days.
