Healing Priest Fr. Fernando Suarez Passes Away
Fr. Fernando Suarez, who became popular in the Philippines for his faith healing, died Tuesday morning, according to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Suarez collapsed and died while playing tennis at the Ayala Alabang Clubhouse. He would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on February 7.
Suarez’s Healing Ministry
In a 2014 story by the Inquirer, Suarez told the story of how he healed a paralyzed woman outside Quiapo Church when he was only 16 years old. He had reportedly asked the woman if she wanted him to offer prayers for her, and when she agreed, he prayed one Hail Mary, one Our Father, and one Glory Be. When he was done, the woman stood up and walked away.
As a seminarian in Canada, Suarez also allegedly healed or brought a person back from the dead. According to the Inquirer, a Canadian woman had been declared dead for eight hours, but came back to life after Suarez prayed over her.
Suarez came home to the Philippines in 2008 to continue his healing ministry, and thousands of people flocked to him everywhere he went. According to the Inquirer, among the people who sought his healing were former first gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, senator Manny Pacquiao, businessmen Danding Cojuangco and Tonyboy Cojuangco, and TV newscaster Vicky Morales.
