An Earthquake Has Caused Severe Damage in Masbate

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Masbate Island on Tuesday, August 18, at 8:03 a.m., causing immense damage to the homes and infrastructure of the residents of the island.

Tremors were felt as far as Iloilo, Samar, Albay, Aklan, Ormoc, Quezon, Camarines Sur, and Cebu.

So far, a couple of residents have been injured but no fatalities have been reported.

However, the earthquake has caused roofs, walls, and entire buildings to collapse. Cracks were also spotted on national roads when the magnitude of the quake ripped open the cement.

Entire homes and community areas have been destroyed by the earthquake. 

The foundations of provincial buildings and family houses have collapsed, causing some structures to lean sideways.

The earthquake caused shelves to topple in some homes, wrecking tables and walls.

Cement roads were ripped open in an instant.

The earthquake comes at a precarious time as the country fights the COVID-19 pandemic.

Masbate has 114 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 53 cases active as of this moment.
