Apparently, 13 of the 50 Most Densely Populated Cities Worldwide are in Metro Manila

With eight billion people living on the earth right now, the world's population anxieties have slowly crept up over the past few years. Governments today are already studying the possible adverse effects of such. Such policies on lowering and maintaining the population could soon see a major overhaul as we progress.

Population density, in itself, has increasingly found its way into the mainstream narratives. It's an important geographical term that helps us measure the population per unit area. In the Philippines' case, continued traffic congestion and overpopulation have been a crisis, particularly in Metro Manila. What's more troubling is that, according to the World Population Review, 13 of the 50 most densely populated cities in 2023 can be found in the National Capital Region. Worse, four of our cities are in the Top 10.

As it stands Manila, has the highest population density. The Philippines is currently the 12th most populous country in the globe, with about 118 million Filipinos in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Most of the most densely populated cities in the world for 2023 are found mostly in Southeast Asia and Asia. Although the definition of "city" does vary, depending on the localized definition of urban area.

Areas like Metro Manila have a far greater risk of lack of housing, infrastructure, and other resources. Unfortunately, if not mitigated through more careful urban planning, these high-population-density cities face an uncertain, likely chaotic future in terms of rent prices, traffic volume, and overall quality of life.
