In 10-Second Speech, Duterte Thanks Filipinos as End of Presidency Nears

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday delivered his shortest speech yet in his six-year term to thank the Filipino people before he steps down later this week.

Duterte made a 10-second remark during the “Salamat PRRD” thanksgiving concert at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

“Maiksi lang po. Sa sambayanang Pilipino, maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo," Duterte said before bowing down to the crowd.

The speech is a rarity for the 77-year-old leader who has been known to deliver spontaneous remarks peppered with expletives.

Throughout his presidency, Duterte has usually delivered hour-long speeches in different functions to address several issues ranging from the country's drug problem, corruption, and even to share glimpses of his childhood and family life. 

A popular president until the end of his term, Duterte leaves Malacañang on June 30 as his elected successor Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. assumes power as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines.
