Vice President Leni Robredo Opens Fifth Free Dorm for Frontliners

Vice president Leni Robredo announced, on social media, the opening of a fifth dormitory for COVID-19 frontliners.
The free dorm in UP Village in Quezon City is near six hospitals, including East Avenue Medical Center, the Lung Center of the Philippines, the Philippine Heart Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and the Philippine Children’s Medical Center.

The dorm, according to the Facebook post, is intended not just for health workers such as doctors, nurses, and medical workers, but also for security guards and COVID-19 volunteers. To reserve a slot, frontliners will need to send their details to [email protected] or 0998 591 7408.
Previously, the Office of the Vice President, together with its #AngatBuhay partners, opened two free dorms in Quezon City (Cubao and Teacher’s Village) and two more in Manila (Roxas Boulevard and Sampaloc). “[We] are also working on opening some more dormitories in different parts of the country,” says the post.

Since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine and the shut down of public transportation in Metro Manila on March 16, doctors, nurses, and medical practitioners have run into problems getting to work, with some forced to walk to hospitals.
Free shuttle services by the local government and the Department of Transportation have since been implemented to aide frontliners. Robredo has also organized free shuttles with eight routes, running from Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Caloocan to the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine in Alabang.

Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte extended his gratitude to Robredo for rallying the private sector to help in COVID-19 relief. As of this writing, there are 3,094 COVID-19 cases, with 144 deaths and 57 recoveries, in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health.
