What Is Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine or MECQ?

And how is it different from ECQ, GCQ, and MGCQ?

The government has released a new guideline the quarantine, and it is called Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine or MECQ. With all the acronyms it has generated since the start of the lockdown in March 15, it’s hard to keep track of what everything means.

Here is a summary of the different lockdown acronyms of the Philippine government.

 

ECQ or Enhanced Community Quarantine

  • ECQ will be implemented in areas tagged as critical zones.
  • No movement regardless of age and health status
  • Minimal economic activity (i.e., food, power, water, etc.) and critical economic sector
  • No transportation activity except for utility services
  • Suspension of physical classes

 

MECQ or Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine

  • MECQ will be implemented in areas tagged as containment zones
  • Limited movement within zone for obtaining essential services and work
  • Resumption of operations of selected manufacturing and processing plants up to a maximum of 50 percent workforce
  • Limited transportation services for essential goods and services
  • Suspension of physical classes

GCQ or General Community Quarantine

  • GCQ will be implemented in areas tagged as buffer zones.
  • Limited movement of services and work within the buffer zone and outside the buffer zone
  • Resumption of operations of government offices and industries up to a maximum of 75 percent of the workforce.
  • Limited transportation services to support government and private operations
  • Flexible learning arrangements; schools to operate at limited capacities tov cater tov students
