A government official did not take lightly Jules Guiang’s tweet, and it cost him his job.

Guiang is a former student leader at the University of the Philippines. After graduating in 2012, he was immediately hired by the government channel PTV4 because he is vocal about his political views and opinions.

Among the programs hosted by Guiang were Good Morning Boss, Good Morning Pilipinas, Bagong Pilipinas, Iskoolmates, Sulong Pilipinas

Guiang had no idea that his freedom of speech would cost him his job.

On June 20, Guiang expressed his opinion on the issue of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, specifically on the regularization of its employees, which became a grilling point for lawmakers who wanted to shut down the network permanently.

Guiang tweeted:

“Defensor grills ABS-CBN for hiring people under different contracts like some aren’t regularized. Check govt’s backyard, thousands aren’t regularized. Example: I’m on my eighth year in PTV without benefits, no employer-employee status. Job orders are a thing in the government and private sector.

“We’re all for regularization, for a living wage, etc. I just find this argument hypocritical to be used against a network that is trying to renew their franchise. Maybe it’s a wake-up call for the industry to treat their people fairly pero ‘wag naman ipitin ang dos dahil dito.”

Jules’ tweet became viral and was passed among ABS-CBN employees and supporters.

On July 20, A month after his tweet, he was informed by PTV4’s management that they no longer need his services.

According to PEP.ph’s Cabinet Files, a certain government official was unhappy about Guiang’s tweet.

Cabinet Files is currently reaching out to Guiang for his comments.
