The Crocs Cowboy Boots Are Real—and They're Ridiculous

It just came to my attention that Crocs has an event called Croctober. It happens throughout the month of—you guessed it!—October, leading up to National Crocs Day. And when is National Crocs Day? Today, dear reader! October 23, the day that Crocs unleashed its Classic Cowboy Boot upon the world.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Crocs marked this momentous day by putting an extremely "Crocs" spin on the cowboy boot. A pair costs a cool $120. Yee haw, baby.

On the lower portion of the frankenboot, you'll find "a signature Crocskin texture." (So, basically rubber.) On the upper, which may or may not be leather, "metallic disco desert embroidery details" adorn the shaft. And at the heel there's "a spinning spur on the back so you can really kick up some dirt." The spur does not seem to be removable, which I would normally argue is regrettable, even foolhardy. But it's a decision that matches how full-on the rest of the look is. No one wearing these is going for subtlety, is what I'm saying.

Now, the real question: Should anyone be wearing these? My gut says no. They're absurd. They're bound, in most instances, for the back of the closet or the landfill. People are gonna buy these things, wear them once or twice as a gag or a costume—hey, Halloween is almost here—and then forget about them. That's not ideal consumer behavior.

But having considered all that, and knowing exactly what you're getting yourself into, if you want to buy 'em? Fuck it. Go for it. It wasn't all that long ago that guys like me were clowning on Crocs. And then the OG clogs hit that uncool-cool event horizon and suddenly showed up on the feet of style-minded folks the world over. I can't say whether the Crocs cowboy boot will achieve that particular magic trick. I sincerely doubt it, to be honest. But never say never.
