Uniqlo's Most Popular Collab Just Came Out With a Men's Line

We’ve gone on about Uniqlo’s upcoming J.W. Anderson collaboration already, and how bad it makes us feel about our tropical climate. But it seems that the Japanese retail giant had more yet to show for the coming season.
Uniqlo Philippines revealed the brand’s Fall/Winter 2017 lineup yesterday, July 27, at One Canvas Events Place, giving us a sneak peek at some of the new clothes we can expect in the coming months. They showed off their mainline collection, of course, which features more of the same that we’ve come to expect from Uniqlo: sweats, basic jackets, and athletic clothes for cheap prices.
But the real stars of the show were their designer collaborations, including the same J.W. Anderson collection, as well as the reprise of two established Uniqlo partnerships: with Christophe Lemaire for Uniqlo U; and with Ines de la Fressange.
Ines de la Fressange is a French designer and model who has been collaborating with Uniqlo for some time now: This is her eighth collection with the brand, and her previous ones have all been huge hits for their effortless Parisian looks. But up until now, de la Fressange had only been making women’s clothes. It’s only for this eighth collection with Uniqlo that she actually got to design menswear too—and the results are pretty strong.
The menswear pieces in Uniqlo’s latest de la Fressange collaboration come off as fitting counterparts to her womenswear. Among the highlights are tailored sportcoats and outerwear in tweed and wool, as well as knitted sweaters with Nordic patterns. The range’s palette plays around navy and burgundy, with a generous dose of warm grays and some earthy browns.
Also previewed at the Fall/Winter show was the latest season of Uniqlo U—a specialty label that’s headed by designer and former Hermès artistic director Christophe Lemaire. This season’s U range doesn’t depart quite as much from its previous seasons, though: Expect hoodies, knitted basics, and outerwear in rich colors. One of our top picks from this collection is the collared blouson, which comes in navy, olive, and black.
While we all know Uniqlo best for their basics, it’s in their designer collaborations that the brand truly shines. No exact release date has been disclosed yet, but it’s reasonable to expect these collections to drop around September to November this year.
