JJJJound x Levi's Demonstrates Double Denim Supremacy
How does the world’s most famous denim maker properly observe the double denim resurgence? Through manifold collaborations, apparently. Nigo x Levi's, Stüssy x Levi's, Ambush x Levi's, et cetera—all of which have drawn hype and acclaim.
But it's taken a Montreal man to manifest the timelessness of the Canadian Tuxedo. Whilst his peers have succumbed to Noughties nostalgia, Quebecker Justin Saunders (via his design studio JJJJound) has taken an era-neutral approach to forming a denim-on-denim collection made in partnership with the American label.
The JJJJound x Levi's SS23 line comprises six pieces designed—as the lookbook maintains—to be worn together. This includes an elevated edition of Levi’s signature offering, the 501 jean, which, FYI, is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and a light selvedge denim utility jacket inspired by a Canadian military silhouette.
Additionally, there’s a denim shirt (an amalgamation of JJJJound’s Oxford shirt and Levi’s workwear layers), an embroidered denim six-panel cap, a watercolour-print pocket t-shirt (not denim), and a large tote coloured in the exact red of the Levi’s logo (also not denim, but looks best when styled with the cotton-twill fabric).
As you might expect from a JJJJound collaboration, every piece is meticulously crafted from high-grade fabrics and finished with subtle branding, giving you absolutely no reason not to wear it all (together) forever.
The JJJJound x Levi’s SS23 capsule collection is scheduled to drop on Friday 5 May 2023 on the Levi’s webstore, the Levi’s app, the JJJJound webstore and select Levi’s brick-and-mortars.
